Knabe
Grand Piano
Year: Circa 1903
Size: 6’ 2”
Price: Listed for $12,500; reduced to $4,650; NOW ONLY $3,720!!!
Here’s a piano that has a lot of stories to tell. Built in or around 1903, this rare and unique instrument has more than a century of music behind it. Knabe has been in the piano business since 1835, operating out of Baltimore, Maryland, and the company is steeped in history. Francis Scott Key commissioned a custom piano from Knabe in 1838. Knabe supplied the grand piano for Tchaikovsky’s appearance at the opening of Carnegie Hall in 1891. In 1926 Knabe was chosen to be the official piano of the New York Metropolitan Opera. Knabe pianos are handcrafted, and a limited number are made each year. It is said that each handmade Knabe has its own personality, and that when you play a Knabe, you can sense the difference. The rich tonal quality of the Knabe has been compared to the human singing voice. Knabe only uses woods, metals, glues and natural fabrics that are best suited for each particular purpose. Many of the early design concepts used in these older models are still used in today’s Knabe pianos. This 6′ 2″ grand was completely rebuilt in 1976 with new strings, pinblock and all action parts replaced, and it’s ready for the next century of play. We’ve had it priced at $6,500; now reduced to just $4,650 for our Summer Sale. Bench included.

Steinway & Sons Model M Grand Piano in Ebony Satin – 1972
Pianos made by Steinway & Sons are legendary for good reason, and this one is no exception. According to pianist Bill Charlap, “The Steinway is the standard by which all other people’s pianos are judged.” This medium-sized model is historically one of Steinway’s most popular models for home use. The Model M’s rich tone, responsive action and manageable size makes it ideal for smaller, more intimate spaces, and it’s equally at home in conservatories and residences.
This beautiful piano was crafted in 1972 and has an elegant Ebony Satin finish, with a few scuffs and scratches on the exterior from nearly 50 years of use, but it’s in fine condition for an instrument this age. The soundboard is in great condition (see photo of underside). One of the white keys has a small crack on top, just under the A and the Y in “Steinway & Sons” (see photo close-up) but it does not affect playability. Overall the craftsmanship is superb. Steinways tend to appreciate in value each year, making them a good investment.
Like all of Glenwood Music’s pre-owned pianos, this one is Colorado-acclimated for reliability and playability in our unique dry climate, and kept in our climate-controlled showroom. This is a great price on an outstanding piano that is part of a time-honored tradition of quality, and it would make an ideal holiday present for any household.

Yamaha G3 Grand Piano in Polished Ebony – 1971
This beautiful Yamaha G3 Grand Piano was built in Japan in 1971, and after nearly fifty years it still looks and sounds amazing. Clearly it has been well cared-for.
The G3 is known for its medium tone and touch, making it ideal for a broad range of musical styles and skill levels. The 6’ sized is a great fit for homes, churches and schools, and the affordable price makes it a real value. It would make a tremendous holiday gift for the household that can be enjoyed for many years to come.
You’ll note that it is stamped with the “NIPPON GAKKI” insignia, which means “Japan musical instruments” in Japanese. This was the original name of the company when they started making pianos in 1900, before it was renamed Yamaha in 1987 after founder Torakusu Yamaha in celebration of their 100-year anniversary.
This piano is in outstanding condition and the finish is very clean. There is a slight visible line along one of the seams of the soundboard, which can happen with expansion and contraction of the wood and is common in older pianos, but it does not affect the sound or playability in the least. We’ve tried to capture this in the photos on the right side of the top of the soundboard, and at the left side of the bottom view, where it’s barely visible.
Like all of Glenwood Music’s pre-owned pianos, this one is Colorado-acclimated for reliability and playability in our unique dry climate, and is displayed in our climate-controlled showroom. The black padded bench shown is included. Please check out this YouTube video for a short demo of this piano being played in our showroom: https://youtu.be/d—jpCEQiM

Kimball Upright Piano in Tiger Oak with Genuine Ivory Keys – Circa 1895
Check out this recent addition to our piano showroom: a beautiful Kimball upright piano from 1895, in stunning Tiger Oak with genuine ivory keys. It’s in tremendous condition, with exceptional woodworking and hardware details, and comes with an era-appropriate oak chair (see photos). It has been professionally inspected and tuned, and it’s ready for another century of music.
According to the experts at the Antique Piano Shop in Knoxville, Tennessee, the W.W. Kimball Piano Company of Chicago was perhaps “the most famous and most successful of all piano manufacturers in history. In the 1880s and 1890s, upright piano production increased substantially and by the last decade of the 19th century, the square grand piano that had dominated the market for the past century had all but vanished. Since this was the height of the Victorian era, manufacturers were building their upright pianos with exotic woods and lavish carvings, often producing incredibly ornate models to suit the décor of the era. The last decade of the 19th century saw some of the finest craftsmanship and quality ever to be put into piano manufacturing.”
This rare and remarkable piano would make a fine addition to any home, and is priced at $3,999. Stop in to see this 126-year-old beauty, along with our wide selection of other equally fine pianos.

A.B. Chase Baby Grand – Circa 1920
If you appreciate an instrument with a century of history in its DNA, you might want to take a look at this recent arrival in our piano showroom: a 5’ 7” A.B. Chase Baby Grand Piano with genuine ivory keys, circa 1920
Here’s a little history about this company and its pianos from the experts at The Antique Piano Company: “The A. B. Chase Piano Company was established by Allen B. Chase in 1875. The original factory was located at 16 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. The firm was quite successful and expanded operations to New York City in the early 20th Century. A. B. Chase built both pianos and organs in the last quarter of the 19th Century, discontinuing their organs by about 1900. A. B. Chase offered a large selection upright pianos, grand pianos and player pianos, and their instruments were known to be of superior quality. A. B. Chase truly built some incredible pianos, and their instruments are considered very desirable by musicians and piano technicians alike.”
This unique and well-preserved piano is priced at $1,920, a very good price point for a grand piano. Stop in to see it in person, along with our wide selection of other fine grand and upright pianos.
